How To Plant Roses
The Right Location
Roses need plenty of sun. Try to locate your beds in an area that will get at least six hours of direct sunlight each day.
Keep your rose beds away from trees and other shrubs to lessen competition and make sure there is plenty of air flow.
How To Prepare The Soil
The roots of your roses love air and water. Remove all weeds from the area where you are planting roses and make sure you mix in plenty of compost. Earth worms are a big help in keeping soil aerated. If you don’t have plenty of worms in the area where you want to plant go to your favorite garden store and buy some.
Planting
Take your time when digging the holes for your rose bushes. They must be deep enough and wide enough to accommodate the root bundle without bunching. Make sure the bud union is located just at the surface of the soil so new shoots will be able to emerge. Also be sure that there is plenty of well composted soil packed around the roots. It’s best to build a heap of soil in the center of the hole and gently press this soil against the roots.
If you follow these simple steps and don’t rush things you have an excellent chance pf growing a healthy rose garden that will produce an abundance of beautiful flowers for the enjoyment of all.
