Metal Detectors are great for hunting for buried treasure! So says Diane Palmer who wrote this informative article based on her family treasure hunting experience.

If you are creative and are looking for unique metal items, then checking out the beach with your detector, or even your own backyard, will turn up all kinds of interesting buried treasure. We found everything from old nails to old valuable coins.

My son got a detector as a gift, and found old coins in our backyard, and also under the grocery store dividers. The grocer let him keep any money he found, since he was willing to crawl under the displays to get it.

Depending on the strength of the unit, you can detect things that have been buried below the surface for years.. this is great if you are a collector, or even if you want something different to add to your craft projects, or you want a new hobby, better yet, maybe it will be worth a lot of money.. doesn’t hurt to dream!

You never know, your own home could be sitting on a gold mine of historic items!. A friend of mine found a old uniform button from the 1800’s on her parents old farm. You could then start a collectibles site online, or sell to local dealers.

The stronger the better, when it comes to metal detectors, if you want this as a serious hobby, or a way to make some extra money selling collectibles, then you need a good quality unit. Some of them even have screens on them that will show you the shape of the object you have found and how far you have to dig. Smaller units are great for kids, and for fun.

Don’t get carried away though, or before you know it, you are trying to explain to your new neighbor why you just dug up her front lawn!
